About us
Good News Community Center is a Christ-centered non-profit society that seeks to bring transformation to Kenyan communities through a threefold ministry of evangelism, acts of mercy, and discipleship.
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor;
Isaiah 61:1
Our Story
James and Vangie Odongo worked with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) for 12 years. They’ve worked as missionaries in Kenya, the Philippines, and Australia. They led Discipleship Training School, pioneered the School of Worship in Kenya, and led the base in Athi River, Kenya. They led medical teams from the Philippines to Kenya to treat the sick, evangelize, and pray for them. They both led teams serving local churches in Kenya and Australia.
When their commitment to YWAM ended in 2002, God put Isaiah 61:1-4 in their hearts. They settled in Kisumu, Kenya, in June 2005. They adopted the Ouya village to minister to poor widows and orphans. God enabled them to provide sheep and goats for the widows, built huts for the widows who didn’t have a decent hut, and led the way in encouraging widows to do HIV tests since most of them lost their husbands due to AIDs. Out of these ministries, the church began, which has now grown to 3 churches and a school in the village, doing very well with over 400 kids.
Good News Community Center has engaged successfully in the following ministries:
150 sheep/goats were provided for the widows
27 tin-roof huts built for the widows
3 water wells were dug in Ouya Village, serving the community and school
Tailoring offered to young widows
Paper beads making
60 widows being led by one of their own, Pastor Clarice
150 orphans in the Sponsorship Program
Over 400 students in Good News Migwena Academy
Vangie Odongo, with a medical background, has a passion for a medical clinic to serve the Migwena and Ouya Villages. The clinic has been Good News Community Center’s objective since its inception. James and Vangie led a team of doctors and pastors from the Philippines to offer free medical treatment during 2-day camps for the last two years, and the number of sick men, women, and children was overwhelming. In 2024 and 2025, more than 1800 patients were treated over a total of four days. There is a huge need for a clinic. This is why we have resolved to develop one. Your partnership through donations and prayers will help provide health care to the poor and the needy in villages where men, women, and children die due to a lack of treatment for diseases that can be prevented and treated.
